7:30pm in the Hinton Hall. TISBURY LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY. ‘No Knickers: A Light-Hearted look at Tudor Life’ is the title of Jenny Peet’s enigmatic talk at our March meeting. All will be revealed. Visitors, as always, welcome.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust South West Group, Why Protected Verges a talk by Fiona Elphick Fiona who is County Ecologist will explain the history of protected verges (green lanes, drovers roads!) who cares for them, and why they are so important. TISBURY FOOTPATH CLUB A walk around two Iron Age hill forts with beautiful Dorset views (Hod Hill & Hambledon Hill) is the object of our next walk. We shall leave Nadder Close at 9.45am for a 10.30am start from the Cricketer pub at Shroton (GR 860126) – off the A350 south of Iwerne Minster. David Mitson will be our leader for this 5 ½ mile walk. All welcome.


Saturday 13th March

7:00pm Victoria Hall, Tisbury. Film: AN EDUCATION – the lead actress Cary Mulligan has been tipped for an Oscar for this her first role as the real life Lynne Barber coming of age in 1962 England. Adapted from Barber’s autobiographical novel by no less than Nick Hornby, this is the story of a girl from a perfectly fine middle class England background who wins a place at Oxford but chooses instead a very different education through her relationship with a very worldly 30s older man. Great
performances from Alfred Molina as her father and Peter Sarsgaard as the older man.


Sunday 14th March

4pm St John’s Church (St Andrews Chapel) SING FOR LIFE – THE ANTHONY NOLAN TRUST. The Anthony Nolan Trust, which is concerned with finding bone marrow donors to help leukaemia suffers, is organising a sponsored hymn and psalm sing in March. The challenge is to sing fifty hymns, psalms or verses non-stop. Last year £50000 was raised nationally in this way.
Our sponsored sing will take place in St John’s Church (St Andrew’s Chapel) at 4pm on , in place of the evening service.
If you would like to sing, or to sponsor singing, please collect a sponsorship form from by the church door or contact Polly Dickins on 870226. Please tell us what your favourite hymn or psalm is – or you can do it on the day. If you don’t want to sing or sponsor singing in advance – just come along. Tea and coffee will be provided. Please support this vital work!!

Horticultural Society Spring Flower Show. After such a long, hard winter it is a joy to announce the first of our three annual shows. The Spring Flower Show takes place on Saturday 27 March at the Victoria Hall. Doors open to the public at 2.30pm, after judging has taken place. In addition to the lovely sight of massed daffodils and other spring flowers, there will be a plant stall and tea or coffee will be available. All welcome.
