The traditional production is backed by the Tisbury Christian Council and supported by the Tisbury Arts Group. We need lots of willing volunteers, young and old, both as ‘backstage’ and actors and would be delighted to welcome everybody to an audition and briefing in St John’s Church at 7.00 on Monday 15th February. The Reverend Richard Wren would be happy to field any queries on 870674. WOMEN WHO LUNCH Salisbury Street Pastors Present: “The Night Economy – We Can Make a Difference”! 17th March 2010 – Emblems Restaurant – 12 to 2pm The Speaker, Patrick Woodard, is Co-ordinator of Salisbury Street Pastors (SSP). He and a Street Pastor will talk about SSP and their experiences. He writes: “SSP comprises teams of Christian volunteers who go onto the streets of Salisbury between the hours of 10p.m. and 4a.m., where there may be up to 7,000 people in our pubs and night clubs: binge drinking is common. SSP offer a listening, caring and helping presence. Perhaps offering a pair of flip flops to a lady unable to walk in her high heels, or calming-down an argument before it develops into a fight”. Amazingly, in just one year, Women Who Lunch has outgrown accommodation at the Black Dog. (Fitting-in thirty five at the last meeting proved pretty matey). Accordingly, The Emblems Restaurant will be delighted to accommodate and offer a reasonably priced menu to include a vegetarian option. Contact the Emblems in advance for other dietary requirements – 01722 714 206 It would be greatly appreciated it those attending could contribute to the smooth-running of the meeting by: · Letting Ruth Eade know you propose to come so she can give the Emblems numbers advance. Email DrRuthEade@thames.me.uk or call on 01722 714 826. · Arriving at the Emblems in time to order your meal before the formal start of the meeting at 12.15p.m. Thank you so much for your continuing support. In-keeping with the purpose of this Group, do invite others to come along with you on the 17th March. There will be a collection plate available for those whishing to contribute to the work of Salisbury Street Pastors. Tisbury and District Horticultural Society Spring Flower Show After such a long, hard winter it is a joy to announce the first of our three annual shows. The Spring Flower Show takes place on Saturday 27 March at the Victoria Hall. Doors open to the public at 2.30pm, after judging has taken place. In addition to the lovely sight of massed daffodils and other spring flowers, there will be a plant stall and tea or coffee will be available. All welcome. Tisbury Art Class We meet every Thursday in the Hinton Hall for drawing and/or painting in varying media. Expert tuition, one-to-one if required. All abilities; beginners most welcome. 9am to 11am (drawing) and 11am to 1pm (painting), or all morning. Times and work are both flexible. Do your own thing, if you wish. Call Sean on 07739 360008 for more details, or just turn up at the Hall and join our friendly group. | TISBURY COUNTRY MARKET We are looking forward to some flowers from the garden to brighten up the house and, if the weather is kind to us, some home grown vegetables. We will still be providing home-made cakes and other baked goods as well as savouries. The new season’s Seville Orange Marmalade is on sale as will be most of the other varieties of marmalades, jams and chutneys. Craft is available with all sorts of small attractive items that can be given instead of Easter Eggs. It is a little difficult to predict how the weather will affect produce in the market as so much depends on it. Any half hardy plants that are ready to buy should be protected from frosts, usually a covering of newspaper at night when a frost is forecast is enough in an unheated greenhouse. Beef drom East Knoyle should be available on the second market of each month. Tisbury Country Market is on the first and third Saturdays of each month, opens at 10.00am and closes at 11.00am by which time most of the goods on sale are sold. Come early - or orders can be placed at a Country Market or be telephoned no later than the preceding Wednesday evening to: Mrs G Hazelden 871054, Mrs A Carpenter 870721 or Mrs A Watson 870535 Easter is early this year and the Easter Country Market is on April 3rd so remember to order your Easter goodies in March. The markets in March will be on Saturday March 6th and Saturday March 20th.
FILM NIGHTS IN MARCH Saturday 13 March: AN EDUCATION – the lead actress Cary Mulligan has been tipped for an Oscar for this her first role as the real life Lynne Barber coming of age in 1962 England. Adapted from Barber’s autobiographical novel by no less than Nick Hornby, this is the story of a girl from a perfectly fine middle class England background who wins a place at Oxford but chooses instead a very different education through her relationship with a very worldly 30s older man. Great performances from Alfred Molina as her father and Peter Sarsgaard as the older man. Tisbury Flower Group At the AGM Jacky Goodwin stood down as Chairperson and was thanked for all of her hard work. Marion Andrews also stood down from the committee. Tricia Carroll was elected Chair, and Chrissie Eden and Miwako Cutler were elected on to the committee. Sarah Allsop presented her hats and talked about her millinery business. On March 23rd Sabina Darrell from The Gilded Lily will be coming to the club for a demonstration. The Gilded Lily have received nationwide acclaim for their floral wedding work. We are a very friendly and sociable group and you only need to have an interest in flowers to find the evenings interesting and fun. We also arrange outings to gardens and other interesting places. If you would like any more information please contact Tricia Carroll on 01747 871954 | ADULTS’ TENNIS 2010 Social all comers’ evenings at Pyt House Club, Tisbury to Semley Road THURSDAYS COMMENCING APRIL 1st from 6pm Nominal charge. TISBUS The next two trips are: Saturday 20 March - A visit to Beaulieu Abbey, Palace House and for those motorcar buffs amongst us the Motor Museum This visit has been arranged for a Saturday so that those working during the week will be able to take advantage of this offer. The cost will be: Adult £21 Senior Citizens £20 Youth (13-17) £17.00 Child (5-12) These are Group prices which show a saving over individual entrance fees. We ask for an initial £5 per head deposit to reserve your seat and the remainder of the money to be paid by Wednesday 10 March. Wednesday 21 April - A visit to the Close in Salisbury with a guided tour of the Cathedral. You could then have lunch in the Refectory before our Group visit to Mompesson House. Costs for Non-National Trust Members will be £12.75 and for NT Members (provided a current membership card is shown) will be £8.25 Again we ask for a £5 seat reservation deposit and the remainder to be paid by Friday 9 April. We do need the money before the day of travel so that we can take advantage of the group booking charges. Sometimes this has to be paid as much as 8 weeks before. Don’t forget we go to Salisbury on Tuesdays, Shaftesbury on Thursdays and pick up round the villages and bring members into Tisbury on Fridays. There is also a monthly trip to Warminster. DRIVERS, DRIVERS, DRIVERS Tisbus is desperately seeking drivers either on a paid or voluntary basis. We should hate to have to curtail our services but unless some potential drivers are forthcoming we may have to consider this option. We can be fairly flexible as to hours and just a couple a week would be of great help. Obviously the more you can offer the better from our point of view, but please consider whether you could help this much needed and appreciated service. Most normal licences are acceptable, PCV ones are not necessary. Our drivers do have to be CRB checked but this is not onerous. It is however essential as we carry children and vulnerable adults. For information on journeys, trips, driving or anything else concerning TISBUS please ring our co-ordinator on 07500-802525 VOLUNTEER ADMINISTRATOR NEEDED! The Wiltshire Historic Churches Trust are looking for some one to take over from Richard Clarke, the present Administrator of the yearly Cycle Ride and Stride. The person needs some computer skills and able to enter figures on to a spread sheet which does all the calculations for you! The Wiltshire Ride and Stride takes more than £50,000 a year shared between the parishes and churches and without this income the ability of the Trust to make grants would be very limited. If you would like to have more details please contact Richard Clarke at 4 Peppercorn Orchard, Great Hinton, Trowbridge BA14 6DB (Tel 01380 870635) or e mail at Clarke@peppercorn.fslife.co.uk | Creative Cow Productions![]() Once again, Creative Cow (so called because they are based on a beautiful Devon farm) will travel throughout the south and south west with a new play called Dumb Show. This is the first touring production of this beguiling and contemporary play by Lawrence Olivier Award winning playwright Joe Penhall (he has recently written the screenplay for the BAFTA nominated film The Road starring Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron). Dumb Show which is Creative Cow’s first production of a play written in this century (all the others have been legendry classics from the 1960’s) was written in 2004 for the Royal Court in London where it received jubilant reviews. The plot involves Barry, a hapless TV personality and John and Jane – two young bankers with an eye to the main chance. Barry, a sucker for celebrity fails to recognize the honey trap and falls prey to the media attention he would normally seek. Joe Penhall explores with remarkable skill and wit the freedom of expression and right to privacy that is an ongoing argument between celebrities and tabloids. Dumb Show is highly entertaining and funny and particularly so in the hands of accomplished actors Katherine Senior, Jack Hulland and Jonathan Parish who return to the Creative Cow stage following their admired performances in Pinter’s The Lover and Travels with My Aunt. Amanda Knott directs the first ever touring production of Dumb Show with the flare and imagination which has become the hall mark of Creative Cow. Victoria Hall, Tisbury Thurs 7th & Fri 8th April 2010 at 7.30pm Tickets £9 wine available.
